Weekend Box Office (13-15 Nov 09): '2012' Destroys The Rest, 'Precious' Booms

Position: 1. Last Week: -.
2012
Gross: $65.2M. Total Gross: $65.2M.
Change: -. Weeks: 1.

End-of-world flick “2012” ripped into the top spot, opening to the seventh best opening weekend of 2009 and the second highest for a disaster-themed film. The Roland Emmerich special effects movie also mesmerized worldwide with a huge $225M debut, one of the largest ever starts. “2012” did well to stay strong over the three days, actually seeing a slight gain on Saturday, a good sign for a blockbuster event picture. Thanksgiving should produce solid grosses and help it to inch closer to the film’s massive production budget of $200M. As far as our predictions were concerned, we were dead on with $67M. Score one for ER.
